Six Identical Mugs from the Shelf

They stand stacked, each like the other, and no one notices which one they are drinking from. This set of six cups is different: the glaze runs uncontrollably over the wall during firing, creating a different pattern of rust-brown and broken white on each cup. Everyone recognizes their own at the table.

What makes these cups special in daily use

• Handleless shape with thick walls: Without a handle, the cup fits in the whole hand. The wall thickness is the reason this works – it keeps the heat from the drink contained, so you can hold the cup immediately after pouring.
• Capacity 90 ml (3 fl oz): Designed for espresso, green tea, and sake. The portion stays hot until it's finished, instead of cooling down in a large cup.
• High-fired ceramic: The dense body does not absorb liquid. Coffee and tea residues do not penetrate the material and leave no permanent stains.
• Flow glaze from firing: The speckling occurs during firing, not by printing. It cannot chip or rub off when washing.
• Glaze extended over the rim: The drinking rim is fully glazed and remains smooth on the lip – no rough, unglazed edge like with many rustic stoneware cups.
• Dimensions 5.8 x 6.3 cm (2.3 x 2.5 in): Compact enough for all six cups to fit on one shelf.

Are the cups dishwasher safe?

The high-fired body and glaze are dishwasher safe – the matte surface is sensitive to abrasives and metal sponges, which leave fine scratches. Arrange the cups so they do not touch each other, as the rough exterior can cause mutual abrasion upon contact. Cleaning by hand with a soft cloth is the gentler option. Not suitable for the microwave if the glaze has metallic shimmering spots; when in doubt, heat water separately. Allow to dry completely before stacking.
