Do cotton shorts shrink when washed?

At high temperatures, yes. Therefore, wash at 30 to 40 °C and do not tumble dry, as heat causes ribbed knit to contract in length. Do not use fabric softener: it coats the fibers and reduces the waistband's resilience, which is exactly the property that prevents them from riding up. Air dry and store lying flat.
