Is the clock really completely silent?

A sweep movement does not produce clicking, but very quiet running noises from the motor can still be perceptible in a completely silent room – usually only from a few centimeters away. If the clock becomes audible over time or runs slow, it is almost always due to the battery: a weak cell causes the motor to run unevenly. Use a fresh alkaline battery and not a rechargeable one, as its lower voltage impairs accuracy. Remove the battery if the clock remains unused for a long time. Only dust the casing dry, do not wipe it wet.
