Covering, arranging, proper washing

Wash the cover separately before first use, as new textiles can release color during the first wash. To cover, slide the insert from one side into the cover and then shape it at both ends so that the round finishes are fully filled; if only pressed in the middle, the ends remain limp and the bolster appears sunken. Close the zipper completely before putting the bolster into use. Regularly rotate the bolster around its longitudinal axis in the seating area so that the velvet does not permanently flatten in one spot. Pressure marks in the pile can usually be restored by lightly brushing with a soft clothes brush in the direction of the pile. Care of the velvet cover: Remove the cover, close the zipper, and turn it inside out so that the pile does not chafe during washing. Wash cold at 30 °C (86 °F) on a gentle cycle, ideally in a laundry net and with little other laundry in the drum, as velvet can develop shiny spots when rubbed against other textiles. Do not use fabric softener, as it clogs the pile fibers and permanently flattens the characteristic sheen change. Do not use bleach or detergents with optical brighteners for colored covers. Do not tumble dry; heat deforms the pile and shrinks the cover, making it no longer fit over the insert. Air dry, lying flat or loosely hung, in the shade and not in direct sun. Do not dry on the heater. Smooth the cover with your hands in the direction of the pile when slightly damp instead of ironing it – direct ironing on the velvet side irretrievably flattens the pile. If ironing is necessary, do so only from the inside out on a low setting and with a cloth in between. Dab stains promptly with a clean cloth, never rub, as rubbing will smudge the pile in that area. Do not put the insert in the washing machine, but only air it out and shake it out if necessary.
