Lay out, let dry, wash correctly

Wash the mat separately before first use. New bath mats shed fibers in the first wash cycle, and only then does the pile reach its full absorbency – when freshly bought, many mats surprisingly repel water due to manufacturing residues. Place the mat on a clean, dry floor and make sure it lies flat; a raised corner is the most common tripping hazard in the bathroom. On smooth tiles, regularly check its position and, if necessary, place an anti-slip underlay underneath, especially in households with older people or children.
