Description

The kitchen that is still good but has looked the same for twelve years – when a new front costs four figures and the standard matte chrome handle makes every surface look the same

The fronts are intact, the pull-outs run smoothly, yet after a decade, the room looks tired. A new kitchen front costs more than the rest of the renovation, painting is a weekend job with an uncertain outcome, and the real reason for the tired impression hangs on every door: the standard matte chrome handle, installed identically in millions of kitchens. It's touched with every use and is the first thing you see when entering the room. If you want to change a kitchen, a dresser, or a built-in wardrobe without replacing anything, the first thing to do is change the handles. This furniture handle features a narrow, tapered shape with a brushed brass look – a fitting that lies flat against the front instead of protruding like a handle.

What makes this furniture handle different

  • Brushed instead of polished surface – the fine longitudinal grooves scatter the light instead of reflecting it at a single point; this makes fingerprints and water stains significantly less noticeable than with high-gloss brass, which is a key factor in daily kitchen life.
  • Narrow, tapered shape – the handle tapers towards the ends, making it appear lighter than a consistently thick handle; on a row of drawers, it creates a calm line instead of a series of clamps.
  • Flat design close to the front – the handle protrudes only slightly and does not get caught on clothing in narrow passages, on kitchen islands, and in hallways, as is the case with expansive round handles.
  • Curved cross-section for gripping with fingers – the top is rounded so that fingers do not rest on an edge; flat edge handles cut into fingers when pulling heavy full-extension drawers with pots.
  • Warm brass look instead of cold chrome – the tone suits wood, white fronts, and dark colors equally well and does not look technical next to natural materials.
  • Three lengths from 8.7 to 16.2 cm (3.4 to 6.3 inches) – the short version fits drawers and narrow pull-outs, the long one fits wide doors; this allows an entire kitchen to be equipped in one design language, instead of mixing two handle series.

Who it's made for

For anyone who wants to refresh a kitchen visually without replacing fronts. For tenants who are not allowed to make structural changes but can unscrew handles and reattach them when moving out. For people who want to personalize a used kitchen or a standard kitchen from a furniture store. For dressers, sideboards, wardrobes, and nightstands whose original handles do not match the room. For bathroom vanity units and washbasins. For wine cabinets, home bars, and display cases. For furniture that has been repainted and needs suitable fittings. For DIY enthusiasts who refurbish old furniture. For dressing rooms and built-in wardrobes where many identical doors require a clean line. For holiday apartments and guesthouses that need to appear more valuable on a small budget. For home staging before a property viewing. Important selection note: The price is for a single handle – for a kitchen unit, the quantity must be selected accordingly. The decisive factor for purchase is not the overall length, but the hole spacing. Available are 32 mm, 69 mm, and 96 mm (1.3 / 2.7 / 3.8 inches); which spacing belongs to which length can be found in the product selection. Before ordering, measure from the center of the hole to the center of the hole on the back of the existing front – only if the measurements match can the handle be replaced without re-drilling. If the measurement differs, new holes must be drilled, and the old ones will remain visible. Whether screws are included and in what length can also be found in the product selection; for thick fronts, longer screws are occasionally necessary.

Measuring, mounting, proper care

Before buying, unscrew the old handle and measure the hole spacing from the center of the hole to the center of the hole; common dimensions differ by a few millimeters, which already won't fit during assembly. Also, measure the front thickness so that the screw length is correct: Screws that are too short won't grip, and screws that are too long will protrude inside and hit the cabinet contents. When mounting, support the front from below and do not hold on to the handle. Insert the screws from the back, first only hand-tighten, check the fit, and only then tighten firmly. Do not use a cordless drill on a high setting – overtightened screws destroy the thread in the wood material, and the handle will loosen after a short time. For new drillings, mark the positions, align with a spirit level, and use a drilling template or a piece of cardboard as a guide so that all handles are at the same height. Drill into coated particle board with a sharp wood drill bit and low speed to avoid tearing out at the front. After a few weeks, retighten all screw connections once, as screws settle in wood material. For cleaning, use a soft, dry or only slightly damp cloth and then wipe dry. When wiping, work in the direction of the brushing, i.e., lengthwise to the handle, not crosswise – crosswise cloths leave visible streaks on brushed surfaces. Do not use metal polish, brass paste, scouring milk, or acidic cleaners: Polish smooths the brushing in places and creates shiny spots that can no longer be blended; on a coated surface, the layer will be abraded. Wipe off grease splatters in the kitchen promptly before they dry. Handles on fronts next to the oven, stove, and dishwasher are exposed to increased heat and moisture and should be wiped dry more frequently there. Do not use the handle as a step-up aid or towel rack.

For anyone who wants to change a kitchen and needs a screwdriver instead of a craftsman.
