The machine is good, the beans are too – and then the espresso lands in standard white porcelain from a set of six. The moment you take five minutes for in the morning then looks like it's from any canteen. These espresso cups have a ceramic body with a gradient glaze and an attached wooden handle.

What makes these espresso cups special

• Capacity 80 ml (2.7 oz) – perfect for a double espresso or a single with milk foam, without the cup looking half-empty.
• Wooden handle instead of ceramic – wood conducts heat significantly worse than ceramic, so the handle stays cool while the cup is hot; with thin porcelain handles, you often miss your grip.
• Gradient glaze with speckled texture – the color runs uncontrollably during firing, which means each cup turns out differently and no two are alike.
• Relief-like outer wall – the curved structure provides grip when holding and casts shadows depending on the light; smooth cylinders, in contrast, lack depth.
• Lightly glazed interior – the crema remains visible against the light background, which is lost with dark glazed interiors.

Why no dishwasher?

Because of the wooden handle. Wood swells in the wash cycle, cracks when drying, and the connection to the ceramic loosens. The cup also does not belong in the microwave. Clean by hand with warm water and mild dish soap, do not soak the handle, and dry immediately. Do not use abrasive cleaners, as this will dull the glaze.
