Is the carafe leak-proof when lying down?

No – the lid seals the spout against evaporation and heat loss, but it is not a tight screw-on closure. Therefore, transport the carafe upright and do not place it in a bag. To clean, wipe with warm water and a narrow bottle brush; for stubborn coffee stains, let a solution of warm water and baking soda sit for several hours. Do not put in the dishwasher: heat and detergents will dry out the wooden handle, and the insulating jacket may lose effectiveness under continuous heat. After washing, leave open to allow the inner wall to dry completely.
