Wash the cover inside out at 30 °C (86 °F) on a gentle cycle, without bleach, and air dry; dryer heat will distort the frayed edge. Afterwards, smooth the fringe with your fingers. Choose an insert that is about 2 cm (0.8 in) larger than the cover so that the corners stand plump.
