The hinge is the first thing to give

You fold your glasses open and shut a few hundred times, and eventually one of the temples becomes loose or tears away from the plastic at the base. With these glasses, the hinge plate is anchored in the temple with flat metal rivets. The force is distributed across multiple points rather than bearing down on a heat-fused connection.

What the workmanship means for everyday use

  • Riveted hinge plates: The metal plate is fixed in the temple with visible rivets. This is exactly where inexpensive plastic glasses, where the hinge is merely heat-fused, tend to break.
  • Metal cores in the front: At the hinge points, embedded metal cores stiffen the material so that the front does not bend when putting them on.
  • Grooved temple tips: The textured surface grips behind the ear instead of simply resting on it. The glasses are less likely to slide forward when you bend over.
  • Transparent frame: The translucent material appears lighter on the face than an opaque frame of the same width and is less visually obtrusive.
  • Uniformly tinted lenses: No gradient tint and no mirror coating – brightness is dampened equally across the entire lens surface.
  • Lightweight plastic construction: The low weight is the reason the glasses do not press on the bridge of your nose after hours of wear.

Suitable for the commute to work and back, for city trips and café visits, for driving and walking, for anyone who wears glasses daily rather than just on vacation, and for faces for which wide metal frames are too bulky.

How to keep the glasses in shape for a long time

Always take your glasses off with both hands, not with one hand by a single temple – this is the most common reason for plastic fronts to warp, causing the glasses to sit crookedly afterwards. Do not leave them in the car behind the windshield: heat makes plastic frames soft, and the shape will change permanently. Keep them in a case and never lay them down with the lenses facing down. To clean, rinse with clear water and dry with a microfiber cloth; paper towels and clothing fabrics leave behind fine scratches. If the glasses feel too loose after some time, have the temples adjusted by an optician rather than bending them yourself.

You reach for the same pair of glasses in the morning – not the next pair because the last one broke at the hinge.
