How to wash silk without ruining it?

The most common mistake is using regular heavy-duty detergent: It contains enzymes that break down proteins – and silk is a protein fiber. This causes the pillowcase to lose its shine and become dull. Use a mild detergent for wool and silk, wash in a laundry net at a maximum of 30 °C (86 °F) on a gentle cycle, and avoid fabric softener and bleach. Afterward, air dry, do not tumble dry, and avoid direct sunlight, as UV radiation weakens the fiber. If necessary, iron on the reverse side at the lowest setting while the fabric is still slightly damp.
