Is the clock really completely silent?

A sweeping movement doesn't produce clicking, but very quiet running noises from the motor may still be perceptible in a completely silent room – usually only from a few centimeters away. If the clock becomes audible over time or starts to lose time, it's almost always due to the battery: A weak cell makes the motor run unevenly. Use a fresh alkaline battery and not a rechargeable one, as their lower voltage affects accuracy. Remove the battery if the clock remains unused for a long time. Only dry dust the casing and do not apply cleaners to the cover.
